Heirlooms, 2023

Heirlooms is a series of five 13" by 20" handwoven, embroidered, painted, and cyanotype printed cloths embellished with cut paper, plastic, and aluminum foil. Heirlooms utilizes my family's archival materials and texts sent by my father. The series explores family bonds, communication, and estrangement, and seeks to make sense of what parents pass down. It serves as a portrait of my father, attempting to capture the singularity and contradictions of a person struggling with mental illness.
